Pittsburgh Sweeps Red Sox
Monday, October 18th, 1982
It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "to the victors go the spoils." For the victorious Pittsburgh Pirates, that meant the Major League Baseball World Series trophy.

The Pirates took a 12-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park II, winning their 5th championship after taking the series 4-0.

"We've got grit," said Pirates shortstop Mike Heath, who was named MVP of the series. "We know how to win when we have to."

The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the National League East Division and a 103-59 record.

Joe Coleman probably doesn't have his best years ahead of him, but he will surely contribute a lot to the White Sox effort.

Chicago locked him up for an additional 2 years at a rate of $140,000 per.

This year Coleman has a 9-6 record with a 3.15 ERA in 25 starts.
