SimSportLeagues

Welcome to SimSportLeagues.com, the partner site of Legendsport.com. But while Legendsport.com focuses on the heroes and legends of sports history as they actually occurred, SimSportLeagues.com takes a different approach. SimSportLeagues.com is the home of various simulation leagues which reflect sports history as it might have been, with a twist or turn of fate. Best of all, the SimSport leagues are interactive - all you need to participate is to own the sports simulation being used. Currently there are three SimSport leagues operating:

The Baseball Chronicle -  TBC uses Out of the Park Baseball 9 to shape baseball history from its 19th-century origins to (eventually) modern times. The teams, leagues and ballparks are modeled on real life, but the players are completely fictional. 

Alternate Universe Football - AUFL uses Front Office Football 2007 to imagine a world in which instead of the USFL forming as a spring competitor to the NFL, the NFL instead expanded by four teams in 1983. The players in AUFL are based on real players, though their careers will progress differently from their real-life counterparts.

Blood 'n Guts Football -  BnG is a full-fledged football universe of fictional players, with both a college and football element. The collegiate portion of the sim, based on real schools (with fictional players) uses Bowl Bound College Football. The professional league is comprised of fictional teams in mid-size markets and uses Front Office Football 2007.

There are plans for a professional basketball league in a similar vein to the AUFL and possibly a college-pro combination hoops league modeled on the Blood 'n Guts League (ie fake players and pro teams, but real colleges). These leagues would utilize Draft Day Sports simulations by Wolverine Studios. At some point, hockey will also return to the fold, also in an "alternate universe" type of model. The hockey league would likely use the SimonT Hockey Simulator.

I'm a big fan of history - and of alternate history. It's fascinating (to me, and many others I'm sure) to imagine how things may have turned out differently had one thing, large or small, been different at a specific point in history. This type of fascination explains the popularity of the novelist Harry Turtledove, who has made quite a fine living on imagining a world in which things changed at a specific point, with dramatic consequences. What I will be doing here on Sim Sport Leagues, is posting original articles of my own, providing a narrative of an alternate reality, with a specific slant towards sports. Here are two examples:

• What if the Union had lost the Civil War? What would the impact of this have been on professional baseball, which began just after the Civil War?
• What if things had gone horribly wrong for the United States - and the Allies - in the Second World War, producing an Axis victory? How would American society - and the sports landscape, been changed in a fascist America?

The first "what-if" provides the basis for "A Baseball House Divided" while the second is the foundation for "The Greater Baseball Co-Prosperity Sphere."
