The American PastimeWelcome to the homepage of the Lords of the Rink (LOTR) hockey league. LOTR is an Action! PC Hockey league replaying the glory days of the "Original Six" era with an eye towards moving through the Expansion Era and beyond!

The LOTR began with the 1957-58 season and will continue to move forward through history, with expansion planned to coincide with the actual expansions of the NHL.

From Gordie Howe to Jacques Plante, all the stars of the Original Six era are present in the league - though not necessarily with their historical club. LOTR pays homage to these greats by reliving their feats on the ice through the APC Hockey sim engine.

If you are interested in being a part of the LOTR, please feel free to contact the commissioner through the Info link.

CANADIENS REPEAT

The defending champion Canadiens had a nip-and-tuck regular season race with the Detroit Red Wings through much of the regular season, but when playoff time rolled around, Les Habs took off and won the Cup for the second straight season. They did it in grand style with a 4-1 series win over Boston in the first round and then an equally impressive 4-1 series win over Chicago (who had upset the Wings 4-3 in the first round) to claim the title. Jean Beliveau had a playoff run for the ages, scoring 11 goals in 10 games, a total that was more than twice as many as any other player tallied. Coupled with Jacques Plante's .930 save percentage and 2.10 goals against average, the Habs were just too tough in the postseason.

In the regular season, Detroit's offense put up very strong numbers. Vic Stasiuk set a new league scoring record by putting up 94 points, one ahead of team mate Gordie Howe's 93. Howe also finished second in goals scored, with his total of 40 finishing two back of league-leader Bronco Horvath's 42. Montreal ended up finishing with the league's best mark at 32-21-17 for 81 points, with Detroit posting 35 victories and 80 points. New York and Toronto struggled, but young Norm Ullman of the Leafs began to look like a star, putting up 33 goals and 38 assists to finish fifth in both points and goals scored. Andy Bathgate of the Rangers and Boston's John Bucyk were the only non-Canadien/Red Wing player to crack the 50-assist mark, with Bucyk finishing second to Stasiuk with 56 assists and Bathgate tallying a nice round 50 helpers.

Chicago got by largely on the goaltending of Glenn Hall who led the league in shutouts with six and tied for the league lead in save percentage (.918, tied with Detroit's Terry Sawchuk). Chicago (Hall and D Pierre Pilote) and Detroit (Stasiuk & Howe) placed two players on the First-Team All League squad while the other spots were grabbed by Horvath of Boston and Doug Harvey of Montreal.
