Lansing Stops Memphis Cold, 1-0 | Joe Lansing of the Birmingham Smokers was on top of his game.
The 20-year-old tantalized the Memphis Bruins with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Memphis manager John Morgan said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Birmingham hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 8 hits in his complete-game effort.
Lansing told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
On his stats sheet this season, Lansing shows a 6-1 record, 6 starts, 54 innings, 38 strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA. | |
