Super Swinger -- Waddell Slams 5 Hits
After a 5-hit effort to lead Birmingham's 20-12 victory over the Montgomery Moccasins, catcher Jack Waddell told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Southern Baseball Circuit-level is really something special."

The 24-year-old player earned his accolades at Riverbend Park with a spectacular 5-for-7 game against the Moccasins.

"His swing is getting there," said Smokers skipper Bob Goble, who spoke glowingly of Waddell after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jack did that to perfection."

Jack Waddell struck out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 8th, hit a two-run double in the 8th, hit a two-run single in the 9th and grounded out in the 9th.

Waddell is currently hitting at a .458 pace with no home runs and 9 RBIs. He has played in 8 games and scored 4 times.
