The Fort Worth Drovers stopped the Houston Eagles by a score of 16-15 at Bayou Field, with the lion's share of the credit going to left fielder Benny Fairfield. The 35-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.

"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Fairfield said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."

Fairfield did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Eagles.

"Not much that I can say," offered Houston manager . "He just hammered the heck out of us."

Benny Fairfield tripled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
