Marty Birch of the Scranton Anthracites blanked the Newark Smiths, 2-0, in a complete-game win, limiting them to 4 hits while chalking up 3 strikeouts and giving up no walks.

"He's got the makeup. He's not afraid to challenge guys," Scranton manager said to BNN reporters after the game. "Marty is poised out there. He knows how to pitch and how to use his stuff."

This year, Birch has fashioned a 27-12 mark, 2.70 ERA and pitched 356.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .221 against him and he has logged 283 strikeouts.
