 | Brooks Tosses 3-0 Shutout for Hartford Tuesday, September 28th , 1886 The bats were ice cold for the Worcester Mechanicks at Mechanicks Field. Hartford Hawks starter Jimmy Brooks kept the Mechanicks cold all day, shutting them out, 3-0. In a fine outing, the 20-year-old hurler allowed 5 hits while striking out 1 and walking 1. "I'm not quite sure what was different today," Brooks admitted later. "I didn't feel like I was doing anything differently, but the results speak for themselves." This year, Brooks has a 24-14 mark in 38 starts with a 2.70 ERA. He has given up 305 hits in 347 innings, struck out 168 and issued 73 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .235 batting average against him. |   |
