Peanuts Shut Out Planters, Spiker Winner

Magic was in the air and on the mound at Bayside Grounds, as Hop Spiker held the Providence Planters spellbound in his 3-0 shutout victory. The Allentown Peanuts pitcher went the distance, rang up 1 strikeout, walked 3, and held the Planters to 3 hits.

"He just had us in his thrall," Providence manager said. "We couldn't put anything together against him."

To date, Spiker has a 23-20 mark in 39 starts with a 2.70 ERA. He has given up 314 hits in 360.2 innings, struck out 243 and issued 73 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .234 batting average against him.
