| Yeomans Rips Toledo for 5 Hits Sunday, September 13th , 1896 The Chicago Crows stopped the Toledo Mudcats by a score of 8-6 at Ironhook Grounds, with the lion's share of the credit going to third baseman Tom Yeomans. The 27-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Yeomans said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Yeomans did just that in his 5 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Mudcats.
"Not much that I can say," offered Toledo manager Gustavo Rodriguez. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Tom Yeomans singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Fred Hughes in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
So far this year, Yeomans has hit .322 with 10 home runs, 93 RBIs and 84 runs scored.
