| Savannah Sycamores Welcome New Owner Thursday, October 7th , 1886 The Savannah Sycamores have been on the market for some time now. A Savannah bank has been quietly shopping the team around, seeking the perfect candidate.
Recently, they advised owner Horace Milton Calhoun that Josh Gibson was the most viable suitor and that he would commit to keeping the Sycamores in Savannah for the foreseeable future.
In prepared remarks, Calhoun said: "It's important to me that Savannah fans get treated fair and square in the future. We've located a great partner in Josh Gibson and I think you're going to love what he will bring to the table. There will be a Southern States League team here for a very long time."
Gibson is regarded by close associates as lenient. They expect him to take a normal approach to payroll issues.
Gibson made his fortune in finance and is generally considered normal in terms of spending. | | |
