| Kibler Shines, Shuts Out Sioux City, 4-0 Thursday, September 22nd , 1887 The Sioux City Grainmen manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Davenport Monitors. The Grainmen were overpowered by Davenport starter Tony Kibler, who hurled his club to victory, 4-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said.
Over 9 innings, Kibler blanked Sioux City on 4 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Kibler said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Hitting .217 to date, Kibler has 4 home runs and 12 RBIs. He has played in 65 games. | | |
