| Tigers Prevail, 4-2, Over Indianapolis | The 1883 season began for the Indianapolis Stars with a loss to the Montreal Tigers at State Fair Grounds. The final score was 4-2. Montreal pitcher Beau McHugh had a fine performance. McHugh yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 10. His record improves to 1-0.
The Tigers benefited from a costly error in the top of the eighth. With Christopher Wright at bat and Montreal leading 3-2, the Indianapolis miscue allowed Montreal to plate 1 and take the lead, 4-2.
