Boston beat Washington in a rain-soaked ballgame.

Boston right-hander Woody Ross pitched his team to victory over the Washington Columbians at Brahmins Grounds. The final score was 7-4. The 7th-place Columbians dropped to 25-40.

Dave Dye had a big 2-run double for the Brahmins in the bottom of the third inning. With Boston leading 3-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a sinker from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Jones and swatted a double to left. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Brahmins ahead, 5-1.

"Woody did a good job keeping the game under control," said Boston manager .
