The Philadelphia Unions routed the Indianapolis Westerners, 11-3, at Western Grounds. Charlie Vanmeter, who led the FL in stolen bases with 27 in 1882, was one of the hitting stars. He was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for Philadelphia. Jack Malley picked up the win with 9 innings of work. Philadelphia used a well-timed hit by Leo Showalter to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Unions ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
