Starting pitcher George Ashe was a major factor in the 7-2 Pittsburgh Vulcans triumph over the New York Barons. The Barons, now 7-14, continue their poor start.

The Vulcans got a big at-bat from center fielder Steve Ferguson. For the game, Ferguson went 1 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2. In the bottom of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead.

"I give credit to my teammates for this win. We got it done," Ashe told the Pittsburgh Gazette.
