Excelsiors Pocket 6-4 Win Against St. Louis | Dedicated fans weathered the storm to watch their beloved Excelsiors beat the Pilots.
The New York Excelsiors picked up a win at Excelsior Grounds, taking down the St. Louis Pilots, 6-4. Starting pitcher Thomas Goss was a big reason why. Goss, now 3-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 4 runs.
New York took advantage of an error in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game was tied, 4-4, when Brutus Strong hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Excelsiors in front, 6-4.
"This was a total team effort," said Goss.
With the win, New York goes to 7-4. | | | | |
