Colts Earn 6-5 Win Against Cyclones
The Louisville Colts topped the Chicago Cyclones, 6-5, at Derby Grounds. Louisville right fielder Charlie Shanafelt was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was Kip Hereford. His record now stands at 4-4. The left-hander went 11 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits for the Colts. The triumph makes Louisville 13-10, as the team begins another long trek toward the playoffs in 1888.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the 11th. With Louisville trailing 5-3, Shanafelt jumped on a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Victor Anderson and hit a 3-run home run to left. With one swing, the Colts had a walk-off win.

"We're on quite a roll right now," said Shanafelt.
