Detroit took on Indianapolis in front of a lively crowd.

Starting pitcher Bill Poole pitched well enough to help the Detroit Sturgeons beat the Indianapolis Westerners, 7-3. Poole got the win, improving to 7-4. He gave up 11 hits and walked 1 over 9 innings. He allowed 3 runs.

Poole contributed in the bottom of the fifth. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one at-bat among others that helped Detroit get the win.

"It's a mindset," said Poole. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."

The Westerners drop to 10-16, as their stumbling start to the 1888 season continues.
