The New York Excelsiors went home winners at Excelsior Grounds, thanks in large part to starter Bill Nolette. Nolette stifled the Boston Brahmins, enabling New York to grab the 7-1 win. The Brahmins drop to 4-8, as their fitful start to the 1887 campaign continues.

Nolette, the winner, is now 2-2, after putting the clamps on the Boston offense. In 9 innings of work, he gave up 1 run on 4 hits, while collecting 4 Ks.

"Bill is a gamer," said New York manager .
