Cyclones Get Gritty, 3-2 Win
The Chicago Cyclones beat the Detroit Sturgeons, 3-2. Chicago pitcher and West Des Moines, Iowa, native Harlan Akins led the way. In 9 innings, Akins surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 4. He allowed 2 runs. Chicago now owns a record of 57-34.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 30-year old third baseman Cap White had a real shot to win the game. Detroit pitcher Martin Bird was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, White hit a run-scoring single. The Cyclones had a walk-off triumph.

"Harlan was throwing strikes, locating well," said Chicago manager .
