Chicago beat Indianapolis on the strength of starting pitcher Jim Lucier's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. The 4th-place Cyclones hiked their record to 63-54.

Dick Sebastian, who finished 2nd in the FL in wins above replacement with 4.2 in 1880, helped out the Chicago cause in the top of the seventh inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the third baseman drew 1 walk.

"Jim had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Chicago manager .
