Skidding Monarchs Lose 8th Straight
The New York Excelsiors defeated the Cincinnati Monarchs, 6-4, in International Association action at Excelsior Grounds. New York pitcher Candy Lemmons had a standout performance. Lemmons, now 18-34, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 0, walking 1, and allowing 4 runs. New York bumps their record to 43-76 with the win.

New York took a 5-4 lead on Willis Gaylord's 7th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Gaylord hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Cincinnati pitcher Ashton Slake visibly frustrated.
