Monarchs Claim Late Win
The Cincinnati Monarchs overcame a pretty good performance by Cleveland right fielder Randy Mix, beating the Clippers, 8-6, at Lakefront Park. Mix went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Picking up the win was Ashton Slake. He went 9 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits. The left--hander struck out 1 and walked 2. Cincinnati's record now stands at 50-40, placing them third in the International Association.

Jonathan Hawkins was 1-4 for Cincinnati. The 25-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Dan Hicks. It was his 49th RBI of the season.

"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Hawkins.
