The Pittsburgh Vulcans overcame a good performance by Baltimore left fielder Curt Johnston to knock off Baltimore, 11-10, at Banner Field. Johnston went 2-3 with a triple and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Jon Baxter earned his 2nd save in 2 chances.

Pittsburgh relied on the hitting of Gary Vankirk to pick up the win. The shortstop ripped a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put the Vulcans on top, 3-0. For the game, Vankirk had 1 triple and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

Baltimore manager said he was disappointed with the loss. "Whenever you score that many runs, you expect to win the game."

The Vulcans are now 45-48.
