| Clippers Slip Past Tigers, 5-4 | The Cleveland Clippers knocked off the Montreal Tigers, 5-4, at Lakefront Park. Randy Mix was a big reason Cleveland won. The first baseman went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Dan Hicks, the winner, goes to 18-31. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, with 6 walks and 2 strikeouts over 9 innings. The last-place Clippers are now 40-85, the Tigers 80-48.
Had Bird Brennan not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Brennan hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Clippers.
"Banging out wins is what it's all about," said Mix. | | | | |
