Late Rally Earns New York 11-9 Win
The New York Excelsiors grabbed a win, 11-9, over the Boston Brahmins at Brahmins Grounds. New York shortstop John Eliason went 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. New York reliever Eddie Montague picked up the win. John Killion, who is on pace to win 10 games this season, took the loss for Boston. The Excelsiors saw their win-loss record go to 50-44. At the same time, the Brahmins fell to 31-69.

Eliason broke a deadlock in the top of the ninth inning, when he hit a 2-run single, putting New York up, 11-9.

"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Eliason told a New York Herald reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
