| Brahmins Reel Off Another Win | The Boston Brahmins, behind a great outing from Peter Gates, who is tied for 10th in the IA with a 3.42 ERA, defeated the New York Excelsiors, 3-1, at Brahmins Grounds. Gates, now 28-27, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 1, walking 6, and allowing 1 run. With the win, the Brahmins improved to 62-71.
In the bottom of the fourth inning of a 1-1 tie, Boston right fielder Jim Strouse reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run. It broke the deadlock and put Boston on top, 2-1.
New York manager said: "Winning games at this level is tough. One thing here and one thing there will cause you to lose."
