New York got a first-rate effort from pitcher Bill Nolette, who frustrated Baltimore hitters en route to a 2-1 Excelsiors triumph at Excelsior Grounds. The winning pitcher was Nolette, now 20-22. He tossed 9 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 2. The last-place Excelsiors bumped their record to 46-92.

Jim Scott, who finished 3rd in the IA in RBI with 75 in 1883, aided the New York cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third. For the game, the first baseman was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
