King 5-for-6 for Birmingham
James King was at the head of a Birmingham hit parade at Slag Park. The catcher went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Smokers to a nice 17-9 victory over the Memphis Bruins.

"I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging King told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today."

Bruins skipper John Morgan said later that the club gave up "too much plate."

"Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

James King doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th.

King on the season is batting .462 with 8 home runs. His totals include 78 RBIs and 91 runs scored. He has played in 79 games.
