Bannermen Get Dramatic 10-9 Triumph
Baltimore catcher Frank Flowers contributed significantly to his team's 10-9 win over the Toronto Provincials. Flowers, the 7th overall pick in the 1884 draft, went 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Bannermen. Baltimore reliever Warren Burroughs picked up the win, raising his record to 1-2. Henry Clancy was tagged with the loss. The Provincials have now dropped 6 straight.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 26-year old second baseman Israel Thompson had a real shot to win the game. Toronto pitcher Glen Nalley was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Thompson hit a 2-run single. The Bannermen had a walk-off triumph.

"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Flowers said.
