Pittsburgh starter George Ashe pitched well against the New York Barons at Columbia Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 13-7. Ed Wales, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-4. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. Ted McGuire earned the save, his 1st in 1 tries.

With Pittsburgh leading 8-7 in the top of the eighth, Ashe hit a 2-run single off New York hurler Jack McKinley. It was the 123rd hit of the season for Ashe and put his team ahead, 10-7.

"I was able to get good plays made behind me," Ashe said. "And I was able to make pitches when I needed to make pitches."

The win puts the Vulcans at 58-64, while the Barons drop to 50-73.
