Unions Fight for 9-8 Win
The Philadelphia Unions downed the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 9-8, in 11 innings. Mike McCord led the way, going 4-for-6 for Philadelphia. Bancroft King, now 3-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. The 5th-place Unions now have a record of 53-70.

Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 33-year old right fielder Leo Showalter had a chance to be the hero. Pittsburgh pitcher Ted McGuire had other ideas. But with one out, Showalter drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Unions had themselves a dramatic win.

"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," McCord told the Philadelphia Daily.
