Late Offense Lifts Detroit to 8-7 Victory
The New York Barons got a sterling performance from left fielder Steve Ferguson, but the Detroit Sturgeons still prevailed, 8-7. Ferguson was 4 for 5 with 4 singles. He scored 2 runs. The Sturgeons improved to 42-64.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 34-year old third baseman Dave Greene had a real shot to win the game. New York pitcher Ben Brownfield was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Greene hit a run-scoring single. The Sturgeons had a walk-off triumph.

"The crowd went wild," Greene said.
