| Westerners Turn Away Sturgeons, 3-2 | In a low-scoring contest between the Indianapolis Westerners and the Detroit Sturgeons, Doug Crockett, who finished 5th in the FL in innings pitched with 543.1 in 1884, proved to be the difference. The Indianapolis right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Westerners win. Crockett, who is on pace to win 12 games this season, went the distance for Indianapolis. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. Indianapolis, with the win, climbs to 14-29.
In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, the Sturgeons allowed the Westerners to take a 3-2 lead on a base hit and Detroit error.
"Doug made some big pitches when he needed to," said Westerners manager . | | | | |
