Brahmins Lose to Excelsiors in Walk-Off
The New York Excelsiors picked up a win at Excelsior Grounds, knocking off the Boston Brahmins, 5-4. Starting pitcher Bill Nolette was a big reason why. Nolette, now 1-0, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 4 runs. Boston, with the loss, is 0-2.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New York catcher Charlie McCarver, facing Lloyd Dehaan, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Excelsiors the 5-4 win.

"Bill just settled in and did what he does," said New York manager .
