Indianapolis Stars starter Charlie James pitched a strong game against the Montreal Tigers at State Fair Grounds, leading the Stars to victory, 5-4. James went the distance for Indianapolis. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits. The Stars raised their record to 2-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 4-4, 22-year old right-handed pitcher Tom Kitts won it for Indianapolis. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Kitts hit a 1-0 forkball from Beau McHugh for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 5-4 win.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Indianapolis manager . "It's usually not just one thing."
