Monarchs Nudge Past Bannermen, 3-2
Norm Mason was a vital contributor to the 3-2 Cincinnati victory over Baltimore. The Monarchs pitcher threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Mason, who is tied for 10th in the IA with a 1.29 WHIP, went the distance for Cincinnati. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. The Bannermen drop to 10-14 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1887 season.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Cincinnati trailing 2-1, Ty Vanlandingham hit a fastball from Bill Silvers to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Monarchs had a walk-off win.

"It's great when the crowd goes berserk," Vanlandingham said.
