Louisville Colts starter Ed Wales turned in a sparkling performance against the New York Columbians, leading his team to a 3-2 win. The second-place Colts lifted their record to 25-17.

Sam Day, who leads the FL with a .406 on-base percentage, took New York hurler Tom Ewart deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 2-run home run put the Colts on top, 2-1. In all, Day had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said New York manager .
