Barons Suffer 6-5 Setback
Detroit beat New York at Columbia Field, eking out a 6-5 win. The triumph was primarily due to second baseman Bill Poole. He was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Cy Verret got the win, improving to 8-7. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 5. The Sturgeons saw their record improve to 32-22.

The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Poole delivered big-time for Detroit, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Ted Carson. The game-changing hit put the Sturgeons on top, 6-5.

"I was just trying to execute one pitch at a time," said Poole.
