Vulcans Handle New York, Snag 11-4 Win
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Pittsburgh Vulcans and New York Barons.

Pittsburgh left-hander Stanley Lamb pitched his team to victory over the New York Barons at Vulcan Grounds. The final score was 11-4. Lamb got the win, improving to 17-12. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 9 innings. He allowed 4 runs.

Steve Ferguson had a big run-scoring double for the Vulcans in the bottom of the first inning. With Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from Jack McKinley, who finished 4th in the FL in ERA with 2.85 in 1884, and swatted a double to center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Vulcans ahead, 2-0.

"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Ferguson told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."

Pittsburgh is third in the Federal League with a record of 31-25.
