The New York Barons took on the Pittsburgh Vulcans at Columbia Field.

New York registered a win at Columbia Field by beating the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 5-4. Pitcher Tom Samples was one reason why the Barons triumphed. Samples, who is on pace to win 17 games this season, went the distance for New York. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits.

The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Samples delivered big-time for New York, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off George Ashe. The game-changing hit put the Barons on top, 5-4.

"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Samples told the New York Bulletin.

The 7th-place Barons now sit at 61-72.
