On Road, Detroit Drops New York, 6-4 | Soggy conditions did not keep Detroit and New York from playing their scheduled game.
The Detroit Sturgeons dealt the New York Columbians a 6-4 loss at Columbia Field. Yank Williams was the star on offense. He went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. He scored 3 times. Norm Mason picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-14. He struck out 2 in 6 innings.
The Sturgeons took advantage of an error in the top of the third inning. Detroit was leading 2-1 when George Ashe hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Sturgeons in front, 4-1.
"Even warm beer tastes good after a win," said Williams.
The Sturgeons now own a record of 27-43. | | | | |
