| Vulcans Deal Excelsiors 10-8 Defeat | The Pittsburgh Vulcans beat the New York Excelsiors, 10-8, at Excelsior Grounds. Pittsburgh shortstop Gary Vankirk, who is tied for 5th in the IA with a .333 batting average, collected 1 single and 1 double with 4 runs batted in. With the loss, New York sinks to 9-5.
The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Vankirk delivered big-time for Pittsburgh, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Eddie Montague. The game-changing hit put the Vulcans on top, 10-8.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Pittsburgh manager .
