| Skidding Clippers Lose 7th Straight | The St. Louis Pilots picked up a win at Fuchs Park, downing the Cleveland Clippers, 4-3. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Bulldog Ayers, who played a pivotal role in the win. Ayers, now 8-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. St. Louis goes to 37-9. The win puts them 8 games up in their division.
Had Jasper Hines not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Hines hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Pilots.
"I know everybody in here is putting in the work," said Cleveland manager . "It's just not paying off." | | | | |
