The New York-Baltimore matchup turned into a slugfest.

The New York Excelsiors powered past the Baltimore Bannermen, 14-13, at Banner Field. Carl Collins went 4-6 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2, to lead the charge. New York reliever Eddie Montague picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Warren Burroughs took the loss.

With New York leading 13-12 in the top of the ninth, Collins hit a run-scoring single off Baltimore hurler Warren Burroughs. It was the 24th hit of the season for Collins and put his team ahead, 14-12.

"If we keep winning the close games," Collins said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."

With the win, New York boosts its record to 10-6.
