Philadelphia pitcher Mike McCord did his part in helping his team beat the Detroit Sturgeons, 8-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. At 33-46, Philadelphia is in 7th place in the Federal League.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Leo Showalter put Philadelphia in front, 2-1, with a run-scoring single. The Unions went on to win the ballgame.

"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," McCord told the Philadelphia Citizen.
