Boston Defeats New York, 5-2
Wet weather did not postpone the Boston-New York ballgame.

The Boston Brahmins earned a win at Excelsior Grounds, stopping the New York Excelsiors, 5-2. Starting pitcher Peter Gates played a big role in his team's success. Gates yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. His record improves to 7-14.

The Brahmins got a big at-bat from shortstop Cecil Mathews. For the game, Mathews went 1 for 4 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 4th triple of the season gave Boston a 2-0 lead.

"All my pitches were working," said Gates. "They were all synchronized together in attacking the zone."

Boston, at 16-32, occupies 7th place in the International Association.
