| Excelsiors Rebuff Brahmins, 4-2 | New York got a strong outing from Eddie Montague as the Excelsiors defeated the Boston Brahmins, 4-2, at Excelsior Grounds. The Excelsiors improved their record to 20-33 with the win over Boston.
In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, Montague came to the plate. He drew a walk, driving in 1 run off Peter Gates to put the Excelsiors in the lead, 2-1.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Montague.
