Monarchs Win Nail-Biter in 10
The Cincinnati Monarchs nipped the New York Excelsiors, 5-4, at Queen City Grounds II. Cincinnati pitcher Ashton Slake, in particular, starred. Slake, who is tied for 2nd in the IA in complete games with 22, went the distance for Cincinnati. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits. Cincinnati's record now stands at 34-31, placing them 4th in the International Association.

Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, slugging third baseman Will Bowling had a chance to be the hero. New York pitcher Bill Nolette had other ideas. But with no outs, Bowling drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Monarchs had themselves a dramatic win.

"This place went bonkers at the end," Slake said.
