The Detroit Sturgeons converted a terrific effort from starter Bill Poole into a win over the Louisville Colts at Riverside Park. The Sturgeons won the game by a final score of 3-2. In 9 innings, Poole surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. So far, the 1888 season has been disappointing for Louisville, now 4-7.

Left Fielder Jimmy Hart made an impact for Detroit, when he swatted a run-scoring triple off Kip Hereford in the bottom of the fifth. For the contest, Hart was 2-4 with a triple.
